Mikhail Hallak / Coaching / French-poetry

French poetry adds a whole other dimension to French music. The mélodie repertoire is written in verses that have their own unique set of rules. Whether the meter of the text is 12, 10, 8 syllables or other is of the utmost importance and will determine which liaisons, breaths or ellisions are possible. It will also determine the flow and the meaning of the text.

As one can see, proper diction is important but equally important are the little known poetic rules. However, when applied correctly those rules bring an incredible sense of clarity and understanding to both the performer and the audience.
